The Gumberg Library is a hub for academic exploration, distinctive intellectual resources, information literacy instruction, and expert library services for the Duquesne University community. An extensive collection of print and online materials is available on-site and online. Over 200 databases offer access to hundreds of thousands of electronic journals and books in an effort to meet the information of students and faculty researchers.

The Gumberg Library opened in 1978 and was rededicated in 1995. The five-story structure boasts individual and collaborative study areas, private and group study rooms, a FlexTech classroom with seven collaborative work spaces, a rare book reading and seminar room, assistive technology equipment and tables, and color. The Mary Jane Schultz Music Center has specialized music listening and viewing equipment to assist students with classwork, research, and music composition.

Several unique special collections that are recognized locally, regionally, nationally and internationally are part of Gumberg Library. The Maureen P. Sullivan Curriculum Center is a PreK-Grade 12 resource room available to anyone in the campus community working with children. It includes thousands of books, games, puppets, curriculum materials, and teaching resources. The Simon Silverman Phenomenology Center promotes the advancement of phenomenology by collecting and making available in one place all the literature on phenomenology, in addition to sponsoring continuing research and original scholarship. Other special collections include the Cardinal Wright Collection, the Rabbi Herman Hailperin Collection of Judaica, the Paul Hindemith Papers and the Honorable Michael A. Musmanno Papers. The University Archives is also part of the library and is the center for the documented history of Duquesne University.

In addition, the library provides essential instruction via a core curriculum course. The course empowers students to make choices about their personal and professional uses of information and simultaneously challenges them to have a critical lens for spotting fake news, exaggerated statistics, and misinformation. It explores the ways certain perspectives have traditionally been rejected by academic research, and seeks a way to attain the best information for our purposes, regardless of the format in which it appears.

Gumberg Library is open 115 hours a week. The library website offers quick access to library collections and research guides. A vibrant social media presence keeps the campus community informed about library services and resources. The vision of the library is to elevate student and faculty success and enhance the reputation of Duquesne University.
