Duquesne University will honor Pittsburgh’s producer/actor Carter Redwood, star of the CBS hit FBI: International, and his brother Maurice Redwood, acclaimed Pittsburgh actor and filmmaker, at From Pittsburgh to the Big Screen on Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Power Center Ballroom.

The Pittsburgh artists, who are the 2023 Duquesne University/August Wilson House Fellows, will share stories and answer questions during the event, which is expecting more than 250 students, faculty, staff and guests.

“We are thrilled to have Pittsburgh natives Carter and Maurice Redwood as our prestigious 2023 Duquesne University/August Wilson House Fellows,” said Duquesne President Ken Gormley. “Their collective body of work and stellar contributions have greatly impacted the stage, screen and culture of our region and beyond. I’d also like to thank the Nancy Beard Foundation for their support of this distinguished fellowship that honors talented artists who carry on the legacy of iconic Pittsburgh author and playwright August Wilson.”

Carter Redwood, whose work spans the stage and screen, is a Princess Grace Award winner and graduate of the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama, where he was the recipient of the John Arthur Kennedy Acting Award. He also spent time training and studying at the renowned Drama Centre London. On stage, Carter has performed Off-Broadway, at the NY Fringe Festival, the NY Musical Theater Festival, Ojai Playwrights Conference and regional theaters across the country and abroad in Katowice, Poland.

Currently, Carter plays Special Agent Andre Raines in FBI: International—the latest installment in the FBI franchise, executive produced by Dick Wolf. He also can be seen in Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on HBO and in the National Geographic miniseries The Long Road Home. Carter also appeared in Premature, which premiered at Sundance in 2019, and was nominated for a Film Independent Spirit Award; the 2017 Sundance film The Yellow Birds; and The Transfiguration, which premiered at Festival de Cannes and SXSW.

Maurice Redwood is an actor, filmmaker and producer with extensive acting and filmmaking experience. Throughout his artistic career, he has been able to work with and learn from artists from all mediums, on both stage and screen. Maurice has been dedicated to creating and participating in works that not only increase his own knowledge and experience, but also help to add to a diverse artistic community.

In addition, Maurice has studied and worked both on and off stage on various productions and performances in Pittsburgh and the surrounding area. He also is a member and African drummer for the Shona Sharif African Dance & Drum Ensemble. In 2014, Maurice co-founded Pittsburgh-based production company CREW Productions LLC, which provides production and media services to local artists, arts organizations and arts supporters. In 2019, Redwood Media Group, LLC, was born to produce original and commissioned works by local creators. The first feature film from Redwood Media Group, House of Stones, written and directed by Maurice, will be released in 2024.

Maurice was most recently seen as Jeremy in August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone at the Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company. His notable stage and screen credits include stage-August Wilson’s Fences, August Wilson’s Jitney (Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company), One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (Barebones Productions Company) and I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings (Prime Stage Theatre), among many others.

Launched in 2018 through the generous support of the Nancy Jones Beard Foundation, the Duquesne University/August Wilson House Fellowship provides opportunities for scholars and artists of color in varied media to engage in literary, cultural and artistic expression that advances their own work and serves the joint interests of the University and community. The Fellowship is designed to bring national and regional artists and scholars into a collaboration between the famed playwright's Hill District home and educational and artistic institutions.

Duquesne University has partnered with August Wilson House since 2011, with students and faculty from its Honors College supporting its creation and programs to honor the Pittsburgh playwright’s legacy, art and historic presence.
