Biography

Dr. James Drennen has served as dean of the School of Pharmacy since July 2021.  A 1985 graduate of the School of Pharmacy, Drennen joined the University’s faculty in 1991 and has served in several crucial roles including associate dean of research and graduate programs and as the Noble J. Dick Chair in Academic Leadership. Drennen co-founded and was the inaugural director of the Duquesne University Center for Pharmaceutical Technology. His scholarly work includes more than 100 publications and numerous national and international presentations.

Research Interests and Expertise

Dr. Drennen's research involves development of methods for enhancing pharmaceutical manufacturing efficiency and improving product quality. From risk assessment to process control, Dr. Drennen's team counsels both industry and regulatory authorities on the analytical technologies, quality by design strategy, and lean manufacturing methods that are necessary for a competitive operation. Graduate students with Dr. Drennen experience a unique opportunity for interacting with industrial scientists and regulators to gain the skills and experience for success in the scientific job market.
