Biography

As Senior Vice President for Student Life, Dr. Douglas Frizzell provides guidance and oversight for a variety of student services and resources at Duquesne, including residence life, commuter affairs, freshman development, disability services, the Center for Excellence in Diversity and Student Inclusion, counseling and wellbeing, health services, Greek life, recreation services, public safety, the Center for Career Development and student conduct. 

Since joining Duquesne in July 2015, the Division of Student Life has added a Parents and Families Portal and newsletter, and further increased its emphasis on safety, health and wellness, including dedicated student Wellness Days and expanded services and resources offered through Counseling Services. In addition, Sophomore Year Experience and a First-Generation College Students programs were launched to identify and support specific student needs and to enhance the overall college experience at Duquesne.  

Frizzell previously served as vice president for student affairs at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, where he managed mission-related initiatives and the Center for Ethical Leadership; created a director of diversity and inclusion position to address the needs of underrepresented individuals; helped develop Greek life on campus; and launched a mission orientation program for all new faculty and staff.  

His prior roles include vice president for student affairs at Newberry College in Newberry, S.C., and dean of students and associate dean for student life at the University of Findlay in Ohio. Frizzell also held leadership positions in the Greater Cincinnati Consortium of Colleges and Universities, and the Ohio Association of Student Personnel Administrators.  

Frizzell holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from West Liberty University and both a master's degree in college student personnel and Ph.D. in higher education administration from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
