As senior vice president for finance and business since 2016, Matt Frist leads and provides strategic management to the Division of Finance and Business, which maintains the innovative stewardship of University resources.

The Division comprises departments and offices that are integral to University operations, including auxiliary services, computing and technology services, dining, design and construction, facilities management, finance, institutional research, internal audit, investment management, mailing services, planning and budget, and treasury services among others. The Division works with Duquesne students, staff and faculty as well as prospective employees, vendors, outside auditors and regulatory agencies.

With Frist's guidance, the University has grown total assets of the institution by nearly 100%, to $1.3 billion as of December 31, 2023. In addition, he has played an instrumental role in more than doubling the University's endowment and long-term investments, valued at $655 million as of December 31, 2023. Frist structured and negotiated four Public Private Partnerships valued at $300 million by monetizing the University's energy infrastructure, privatizing two on-campus student housing facilities and constructing a third. He also led efforts to acquire strategic property adjacent to campus, which is site of the College of Medicine.

Frist, who has held a variety of leadership positions in the Division of Finance and Business since 1998, has served on and leads several University committees that address benefits, bond compliance, budget and retirement issues at Duquesne. He also assists in staffing the Audit and Finance and Investment Committees for Duquesne's Board of Directors.

Frist is a financial peer reviewer for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and has held leadership posts with the Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers. He has a bachelor's degree from Gannon University, a master's degree from Duquesne University and an Ed.D. in Higher Education Management from the University of Pittsburgh.
